Back in 1998 when I completed my Harvard ALM Thesis: "Federal Reserve Expansion in Mexico", the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was a topic of conversation in Washington, Ottawa and Mexico City. During my research, mostly done at the Baker Library which is located on the Harvard Business School (HBS) campus, I noticed that the U.S. Federal Reserve already played a significant role in the Mexican economy. Expansion of the Federal Reserve into Mexico would turn that informal role into a formal one.
